Job Title

Senior Statutory Accountant

Job Summary

Lead statutory financial reporting and analysis across multiple legal entities, ensuring the integrity of statutory financial information and compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and related regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and file accurate and timely quarterly and annual statutory financial statements for multiple legal entities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of regulatory filings and data calls to state insurance departments and other regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with SAP and monitor changes in SAP and regulatory requirements to assess their impact.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulators during statutory audits and examinations.
  • Support internal management reporting and provide insights into statutory financial performance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Maintain financial internal controls over statutory financial reporting in compliance with the NAIC Model Audit Rule (MAR).
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Tax, GAAP Reporting, and Compliance to ensure alignment and accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Support ad hoc projects, including process improvements and system enhancements, and other tasks as assigned by the Controller.
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the property‑casualty insurance industry.
  • Corporate statutory accounting experience preferable.
Skills and Abilities
  • Technical accounting knowledge including experience documenting and researching technical accounting answers.
  • Solid financial analysis skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate time‑management/prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions.
  • Intermediate business perspective, including an understanding of the political nature of the organization.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Solid knowledge of accounting concepts/theories (GAAP & NAIC statutory).
  • Solid knowledge of insurance accounting and reporting concepts/theories.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • General Ledger experience.

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual’s location and experience. The expected compensation range is $100,000 – $117,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
