About the RoleThe Inventory Accounting Team is responsible for maintaining accurate, comprehensive records of the organization’s inventory across its lifecycle. This dynamic team oversees all aspects of inventory management, from monitoring stock levels and reconciling discrepancies to ensuring accurate and timely recording of inventory-related transactions. Working cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance teams, the group drives process efficiency and enforces robust inventory control measures.
By delivering critical insights into inventory performance and trends, the team plays a vital role in financial reporting, supports the preparation of financial statements, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and a strong understanding of cost accounting principles.
- Lead month-end close activities related to inventory, including preparation of account reconciliations, analysis of general ledger transactions, and posting of journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
- Review and validate transactions impacting inventory in the general ledger, including purchase orders, receipts, fulfillment activity, supply chain invoices, warehouse adjustments, and physical inventory counts.
- Assist with the management and reconciliation of inventory accounts across financial reporting systems and operational platforms such as Net Suite, proprietary Warehouse Management Systems, and others.
- Prepare detailed inventory accounting schedules and work papers to support public company SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance and internal/external audit requirements.
- Lead ad hoc projects related to inventory and internal fulfillment operations, including audit support, regulatory filings, and system enhancements.
- Review deliverables from outsourced accounting partners; develop and maintain process documentation and training materials to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Proactively identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, automation, and documentation within the inventory accounting function.
- 2–4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with direct exposure to inventory or cost accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a top-tier university.
- Big 4 accounting firm experience strongly preferred.
- CPA or active progress toward CPA certification is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret large volumes of transactional data.
- Advanced Excel skills; with the ability to build and maintain large excel models.
- Experience with ERP systems (especially Net Suite) is a plus.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate complex accounting issues, recommend solutions, and clearly communicate findings to the broader team.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
