Position: Payroll Accountant (Remote)

Position Title: Payroll Accountant

Location: Remote (candidates based in Virginia preferred; optional on-site availability 1x/month)

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 annual salary

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, and 401(k).

Job Description

We’re seeking aPayroll Accountant to join a collaborative and high-performing payroll team within a stable and growing organization. The ideal candidate is an experienced payroll professional with strong technical skills who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle, biweekly payroll processing for a large, multi-state employee base.
  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal tax and labor regulations.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations and prepare reports for Finance and HR teams.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies related to employee pay and deductions.
  • Partner cross-functionally to support audits and ensure data accuracy.
  • Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives within the payroll system.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and macros required).
  • Proven experience managing payroll for high employee volumes (1,000+ employees).
  • Experience with Paycom or similar systems (e.g., UKG, Kronos) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to manual processes and evolving systems.
  • Willingness to work extended hours on payroll processing days.
