Tarsus Accounting is seeking an experienced Government Contractor Senior Accountant to join our growing remote team. In this role, you’ll manage the accounting and financial reporting needs of government‑funded and non‑profit clients. You’ll ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency across all financial activities, helping our clients remain audit‑ready and aligned with federal and state regulations.
This is a hands‑on position for someone who enjoys analytical work, continuous learning, and building strong client relationships in a supportive and flexible environment. Payroll experience is beneficial, but not the primary focus of the role.
Key Responsibilities- Manage full‑cycle accounting for a portfolio of government and non‑profit clients, including month‑end close, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain general ledgers and ensure all transactions are properly classified according to funding sources and compliance requirements.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including reporting requirements under FAR, OMB Guidance, and other grant standards.
- Assist with annual audits, grant and contract reporting, and budget preparation.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs for consistent accuracy and accountability.
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver exceptional client service and provide proactive financial insights.
- Support payroll‑related tasks as needed, ensuring integration with the general ledger and grant allocations.
- 3+ years of professional accounting experience, preferably in governmental or non‑profit environments.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting, restricted funds, and government grant compliance.
- Proficiency in Quick Books Online (or similar accounting systems).
- Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently in a fully remote environment, managing multiple clients and deadlines efficiently.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Working knowledge of FAR, OMB Uniform Guidance, and other federal compliance frameworks.
- CPA, CGFM, or similar certification is a strong plus.
- Experience with payroll processing or integrating payroll data into fund accounting systems.
