Position Overview
We are seeking a Property Accountant to join our Property Accounting team. This individual will prepare monthly financial statements for commercial and residential management clients. You will work on multiple client accounts and collaborate with Accountants in the US. We operate a hybrid working model with 3 days of working from home per week. This role is based in the Cape Town Office, and the successful candidate will need to work partial US hours – 12:00 to 20:30, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Post tenant receipts and ensure accurate cash application
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Prepare supporting workbooks (as per each client’s request)
- Review income statements against the Trial Balance and General Ledger for accuracy
- Analyse balance sheet and income statement accounts, identify unusual activity, and report findings to clients
- Produce monthly and ad-hoc financial statements and reports for owners and management companies
- Maintain open and effective communication with clients at all times
- Ensure work is accurate, complete, and review-ready, with minimal to no review notes from task leaders or clients
- Assist with training new analysts and accountants, including bank reconciliations, cash receipts, and accounts payable processes
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- 2–4 years’ experience as a Property Accountant within a commercial or residential property management environment
- Experience working in a multi-client environment with strict deadlines
- Relevant Accounting degree, qualification or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and property accounting practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, peers, and management
- Experience clearly documenting work processes, assumptions, and support schedules, and store them systematically on shared drives to ensure continuity and ease of review
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset
- High degree of dependability, motivation, flexibility, and accountability
- Experience using MRI software (advantageous)
