What You’ll DoThis is a senior-level role requiring ownership, leadership, and independent decision-making.
- Oversee weekly financial processing, including accurate categorization of bank feeds
- Personally manage a small book of clients from processing through reporting
- Review and approve monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
- Perform month-end processes for your own portfolio
- Oversee Accounts Payable processes and ensure accuracy
- Produce and review comprehensive financial statements and management reports
- Review and approve monthly Sales Tax returns
Month-End & Quarterly Excellence
- Take ownership of month-end processes and ensure deadlines are met
- Conduct quarterly reviews, including evaluating books for potential 1099 filings
- Oversee quarterly tax-related projects and ensure compliance
- Manage and organize junior accountants and bookkeepers
- Review team deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and quality
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback
- Improve workflows and drive efficiency within the team
Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with U.S. clients
- Communicate confidently and professionally in a virtual environment
- Lead client discussions where required, not only assist
- Manage expectations and proactively address client concerns
New Client Onboarding
- Support onboarding on an ad-hoc basis to ensure accounting accuracy and process alignment
Problem Solving & Ownership
- Identify discrepancies and resolve them independently
- Research solutions before escalating issues
- Improve processes to prevent recurring errors
- Take full ownership of your client portfolio and team output
Qualifications
- BCom in Accounting or relevant accounting degree
- Minimum 6 years’ experience, including completed articles
Experience & Capability
- Proven experience managing or supervising a team
- Strong ability to organise, prioritise, and hold team members accountable
- Confident engaging directly with clients
- Able to solve problems independently without constant direction or repeated clarification
Flexibility
- Comfortable working aligned to U.S. hours (up to 11 PM SAST on weeknights when required)
- Open to international travel if required
Communication
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable operating in a fully virtual, global environment
- You prefer purely execution-based work without leadership responsibility
- You insist on a strict 9–5 schedule
- You struggle to work extended hours during peak season
- You require constant supervision or daily operational direction
- You are uncomfortable being accountable for both your own work and your team’s output
- You prefer to stay within your comfort zone rather than expanding into U.S. tax and advisory exposure
