Position Overview

The Property Accountant will work closely with clients to support all property accounting activities, handling both subledger and general ledger tasks, and working on projects that expand system and process knowledge.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in administering all levels of property accounting and special projects as requested by management.
  • Create tenant transactions, invoice tenants, and post tenant payment receipts.
  • Perform credit control activities, including aged debt reporting, sending arrears letters, and liaising with tenants on queries.
  • Code supplier invoices and produce supplier statements.
  • Run the full end‑to‑end service charge process: raise charges on accounts, recover expenditure, handle billing voids, and complete year‑end reconciliations.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with VAT reporting activities.
  • Manage month‑end and year‑end activities: close periods, run GL reports (e.g., trial balance), and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Onboard new portfolios, entering static lease data and financial opening balances.
  • Perform lease administration, reconciling portfolio data against client leases and managing lease lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of experience as a property accountant with a commercial or residential management company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Must be available during UK or North American business hours and observe South African public holidays (receiving UK/NA holidays instead).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, peers, and management.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines while managing competing priorities.
  • Strong organisational skills, dependability, motivation, and flexibility.
Nice to Have
  • Experience using MRI Software applications.
  • Understanding of property and lease management processes and principles.
  • Comfortable with non‑technical system administration tasks.
  • Knowledge of Turnover Rent or IFRS
