The Opportunity

Dentalcorp is Canada’s largest and fastest‑growing network of dental practices. Our continued expansion—including cross‑border activity—creates new complexity in how we manage tax. We are hiring a Head of Tax to lead both our Canadian and U.S. tax functions, ensuring compliance, optimizing our tax position, and supporting our acquisitive growth strategy on both sides of the border. This position is based out of Dentalcorp’s Toronto Support Centre and reports to the VP, Finance.

The role is critical to Dentalcorp’s long‑term growth ambitions and offers a unique opportunity to shape the tax function of a leading organization as it scales operations in Canada and the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Canadian and U.S. tax compliance, serving as the principal contact for government tax audits in both jurisdictions.
  • Manage Canadian and U.S. tax compliance and elections arising from all acquisitions, supporting Dentalcorp’s M&A activity end‑to‑end.
  • Own the quarterly and annual income tax provision (Canadian and U.S.) and related note disclosures.
  • Manage and track all filing deadlines and requirements for both Canadian and U.S. obligations.
  • Provide oversight of Canadian and U.S. tax payments and estimates communicated to Treasury, and own reconciliation of tax accounts to ensure activity and balances appropriately reflect the company’s tax position and status.
  • Ensure transfer pricing policies and documentation (including cross‑border arrangements between Canadian and U.S. entities) are current, consistently applied, and compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Provide business analysis on request, including projections of future cash taxes across jurisdictions.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate internal processes and guidelines to optimize and automate the tax function while minimizing tax risk.
  • Actively monitor, assess, and respond to potential Canadian and U.S. tax changes impacting the organizational structure.
  • Address complex tax issues as they arise and partner across the business to provide timely, accurate advice.
  • Lead CRA and IRS correspondence end‑to‑end.
  • Partner with the Controllership and external auditors on all tax‑related financial reporting matters, including uncertain tax positions, deferred tax accounting on acquisitions, and disclosure in MD&A and financial statements under IFRS.
  • Drive tax technology and process automation initiatives (provision software, compliance tools, ERP integration) to scale the function with the business.
  • Present tax matters to the CFO, Audit Committee, and external auditors as required.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in a related field and a minimum of 10–12+ years of tax experience dealing with complex tax issues and optimization projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both Canadian and U.S. tax—including compliance, provision (ASC
    740 / IAS
    12), M&A tax, and cross‑border / transfer pricing matters.
  • Professional accounting designation—Canadian CPA required; U.S. CPA, MST, or in‑depth CICA Tax Course an asset.
  • Hands‑on experience, comfort, and interest with ERP systems and BI tools.
  • Experience in and motivation by a high‑growth, acquisitive, fast‑paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Superior analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex issues into actionable points, and demonstrated ability to perform under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple large, complex projects and competing priorities while building strong relationships with colleagues.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and coach the team through a transition where they will be increasingly relied upon to provide value‑added insights.
  • Ability to live and champion the Dentalcorp values—Beyond the Status Quo, Brilliant Together, Beyond Excellence, Brilliant Experiences— with every interaction.
  • Big4 foundation strongly preferred, with subsequent in‑house experience at a public company or PE‑backed acquirer.
