City of Wolverhampton Council – Finance Manager
Grade 8 – £52,413 - £56,730 per annum
Permanent, full time, 37 hours per week

About

The Role
  • Lead a small team through the annual closedown process and production of the Statement of Accounts
  • Take responsibility for the preparation and review of the Statement of Accounts and supporting notes, including complex areas such as Property, Plant and Equipment
  • Ensure compliance with the CIPFA Code of Practice and all relevant accounting standards
  • Lead on technical accounting updates and advise on appropriate accounting treatments
  • Support the external audit process, including preparing high‑quality working papers and responding to audit queries
  • Liaise with external valuers and internal Estates teams, ensuring robust valuation processes and assurance arrangements
  • Provide expert advice to finance colleagues and services across the Council on accounting, financial reporting and taxation matters
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial reporting, closedown processes and audit readiness
About You

You have a strong background in finance, backed by full chartered accountant status (CCAB/CIMA – with active membership) and public sector technical accounting experience. You have significant post‑qualification experience supporting leadership teams, developing good stakeholder relationships, and producing high‑quality reports for management decision‑making. You thrive under tight deadlines, are committed to maintaining the highest professional and ethical standards, work autonomously, and drive innovation within delegated authority.
