Operational Accountant – Part Qualified / Qualified ACCA

About the Company

We are an independent television distribution company specialising in the international sales and licensing of factual television programmes. Acting on behalf of producers, we distribute content to broadcasters, platforms and television channels around the world and manage the associated financial reporting and royalty payments. We are seeking a commercially minded and highly organised accountant to take ownership of the day‑to‑day finance function while providing accurate management information and royalty reporting to producers and management.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious part‑qualified or qualified accountant who enjoys working in a small business environment where they can have a direct impact on operations and decision-making.

Role Overview

The postholder will manage the day‑to‑day accounting function, including issuing sales invoices, credit control, paying customer invoices, bank account reconciliations in multi‑currencies, managing and maintaining the finance system (currently Kashflow, but planning to move to Xero), maintaining various spreadsheets, liaising with auditors for year‑end reporting and statutory accounts preparation, budgeting and forecasting in collaboration with the business owner, maintaining the royalties records and making quarterly payments to recipients.

Key Responsibilities
  • All financial reporting, including monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts preparation.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term financial planning in collaboration with the business owner.
  • Deliver financial analysis and commercial insights to support business decisions
  • Operational finance including processing Sales Invoices, Purchase Invoices, Bank & Balance Sheet Reconciliations, Credit Control
  • Quarterly preparation and distribution of royalty payments in accordance with contractual agreements.
  • Maintaining accruals and distribution advance reconciliations.
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, overheads budget and cash flow forecasts
  • Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors to produce accurate and timely Statutory reports
Essential
  • (Part-qualified or) qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent), or qualified by experience
  • Previous experience of managing small business accounts
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience using Kashflow and Xero or similar accounting package
  • Understanding of Multi Currency transaction reconciliations, Management of Exchange Rates and Withholding Tax
  • Excellent numerical and analytical abilities, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage the workload and deliver accurate and timely reporting.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non‑financial colleagues.
