An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a newly established, publicly owned organisation at an important stage of its development. This is a high-profile position offering the opportunity to help establish the financial governance, reporting processes and control environment required to support its long-term objectives.
Reporting to the Finance Director/Head of Finance and managing a team of two, the Financial Controller will lead financial reporting, statutory accounts and external audit delivery. Responsibilities will also include treasury and cash management, taxation, balance-sheet accounting, month-end and year-end processes, and the development of financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for preparing the Annual Report and Accounts, maintaining accounting policies and ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with applicable standards. They will act as a key contact for external auditors, oversee reconciliations, VAT returns and corporation tax computations, and provide clear financial advice to colleagues across the organisation. The role will also support the continued development of financial systems, counter-fraud controls and assurance processes within a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Keycriteria:
- Fully qualified accountant with at least five years’ post-qualification experience – CCAB, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including IFRS and FReM.
- Experience preparing statutory accounts and managing annual reporting processes.
- Strong knowledge of balance-sheet accounting, reconciliations and financial controls.
- Experience managing external audits and acting as a key contact for auditors.
- Previous experience within government, an arm’s-length body or another public-sector organisation is strongly preferred.
- Experience with in an investment or funding environment may also be considered where suitable knowledge of public-sector financial frameworks can be demonstrated.
- Salary of £76,000–£92,906, with potential flexibility for an exceptional candidate
