Professional Financial Accounting Specialist Location

The Professional Financial Accounting Specialist undertakes comprehensive financial accounting duties within an established accounting function. The role requires maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements. The post holder works closely with various departments to support month-end and year-end closing processes and provides detailed financial analysis to assist management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with UK accounting standards
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors during audits
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities by providing financial data and variance analysis
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, company policies, and accounting principles
- Process and verify invoices, payments, and expense reports in a timely manner
- Contribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls
- Prepare financial reports and summaries for management and other stakeholders as required
- Maintain accurate and organised financial documentation and records
- Respond promptly to financial queries from internal and external parties
- Recognised professional accounting qualification or working towards one (for example, AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of UK accounting standards and financial regulations
- A minimum of A-level qualifications or equivalent qualifications in relevant subjects
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- At least two years experience working in a financial accounting role within the accounting, banking or financial services sectors
- Experience preparing financial statements and performing reconciliations
- Familiarity with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and financial legislation
- Strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving financial discrepancies
- Experience working within the banking or financial services industry
- Knowledge of financial reporting software and enterprise resource planning systems
- Understanding of tax regulations and compliance requirements
