This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Accounts Assistant or Assistant Management Accountant who is ready to take the next step, gain greater responsibility and develop their management accounting experience.
About the Job Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the day-to-day finance function across multiple hotels, taking ownership of key areas including month-end, management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, revenue reconciliation and financial controls. This is a varied role offering the opportunity to work closely with both Finance and operational teams while developing your technical accounting skills within a busy hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Finance Manager with monthly management accounts and month-end reporting. Take ownership of key month-end processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and adjustments. Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate outstanding items. Assist with P&L reviews, variance analysis and financial reporting. Support budgeting and forecasting processes. Review daily revenue and income audit information and investigate discrepancies. Complete daily and monthly revenue reconciliations across both hotel sites.
Reconcile cash, bank, credit card and other control accounts. Support accounts payable, including invoice processing, supplier statement reconciliations and payment runs. Support accounts receivable and credit control activities. Assist with payroll reconciliations and related finance reporting. Take ownership of designated finance processes and reconciliations. Review transactional finance work completed by junior team members and provide guidance where required. Act as a point of contact for finance queries from operational departments and suppliers.
Maintain accurate financial records and strong financial controls. Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate and timely financial information. Support internal and external audit requirements and prepare audit schedules. Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and efficiencies. Assist with training and supporting Accounts Assistants and other junior team members. Provide cover and additional support for the Finance Manager when required.
Previous Experience Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant, Senior Accounts Assistant or similar role. Strong practical experience across transactional finance, reconciliations and month-end processes. Experience preparing journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. Experience reviewing financial information, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies. Good understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and general ledger processes. Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Experience using accounting or finance systems. Hotel systems experience such as Opera, Procure Wizard, Birch Street or similar would be advantageous. Hotel, hospitality or multi-site finance experience is beneficial but not essential. Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines. Confident communication skills with the ability to work effectively across Finance and operational teams.
Proactive, organised and solutions-focused approach. Ability to take ownership while working collaboratively within a wider Finance team. ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent qualification/studies would be advantageous but are not essential for candidates with strong relevant experience.
