Accounting Specialist
UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics Academic and Research Business Office (CARBO) is seeking an Accounting Specialist to help support the financial backbone of our academic programs. This entry-level position will produce accurate reports, reconcile accounts, and assist faculty and staff with fiscal questions related to teaching and research activities. If you're detail-driven and enjoy meaningful work in a student-centered environment, this is a great opportunity to build your skills and gain professional experience in accounting and financial administration.
If you enjoy working with numbers, solving problems, and keeping financial processes running smoothly, the College of Natural Science & Mathematics (CNSM) at UAF has an exciting opportunity for you! As the CARBO Accounting Specialist, you'll work with financial data, run queries, prepare journal vouchers, track budgets, and provide information that supports CNSM's day-to-day operations. You'll also assist with financial activities related to faculty research and provide backup purchasing support, giving you exposure to a variety of fiscal and administrative functions across the college.
To excel in this position, you should enjoy problem-solving and working with detailed financial information. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, comfortable with spreadsheets, and willing to learn automated accounting tools and processes. You'll thrive if you enjoy investigating discrepancies, creating clear and accurate reports, and learning how complex fiscal systems work. Strong communication and customer service skills are key, as faculty, staff, and students will rely on you for responsive and helpful support.
The pace can be fast—especially around month-end and fiscal year-end—so the ability to stay focused, maintain accuracy, and manage competing deadlines will help you succeed. If you enjoy untangling financial puzzles, learning new systems, and contributing to a collaborative team, this may be a great fit for you. This is an entry-level position intended for someone looking to develop professional experience and knowledge in early accounting principles.
The position provides opportunities to take on additional responsibilities and develop proficiency with University of Alaska systems and processes as experience is gained.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of college coursework in Accounting or related fields and two years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required documents:
Cover Letter, Detailed Resume, Supplemental Questions.
