Assistant Financial Accountant JD
Salary - £33,651 per annum
Hours - Full-time, 35.75 hours per week(Monday to Friday)
Contract - Permanent
Location - Meadowbank Sports Centre (Hybrid)

We are looking for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join our finance team and help deliver accurate, timely and well-controlled financial services across Edinburgh Leisure.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, making sure transactions are accurate, properly recorded and completed on time.
- Review and approve the weekly supplier payment run in line with agreed authorisations and financial controls.
- Monitor overdue customer balances, support credit control activity and work with colleagues to resolve supplier and customer account queries.
- Complete allocated month-end tasks, including journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Maintain the fixed asset register in terms of asset additions, transfers and disposals
- Support accurate VAT records, checks, schedules and returns.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to Finance Assistants, helping to allocate work, resolve queries and maintain clear performance expectations.
- Identify practical ways to improve finance processes, records and controls, and escape complex or higher-risk issues when needed.
What You’ll Bring:
- Qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), a fully qualified accountant, or currently working towards a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as ACCA, CIMA, ICAS or an equivalent.
- Practical experience of transactional finance and month-end accounting, including reconciliations, journals, accruals or prepayments.
- A good understanding of financial controls, with the ability to maintain accurate records and meet clear deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to investigating differences, solving problems and knowing when to escalation an issue.
- The ability to organise competing priorities and complete accurate work within weekly and month-end deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication skills, with the confidence to build good working relationships and provide supportive day-to-day guidance to a small team.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning new finance, reporting and business systems. Training on Edinburgh Leisure’s Finance system will be provided.
Working Arrangements:
This is a hybrid role with time spent between our head office at Meadowbank and working from home.
