Job SummaryThe Accountant performs a wide range of professional accounting and financial support functions requiring the application of accounting principles, analysis, and judgement to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial activities and records. This position is responsible for supporting multiple areas of accounting in accordance with organizational policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant supports day‑to‑day financial operations, monthly and year‑end close processes, audit preparation, regulatory reporting, and the classification of financial transactions, including restricted and unrestricted transactions.

Standard hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays, unless otherwise approved by the department lead. There will be occasions when extended hours are required due to events, travel, meetings, or other requirements. - Location:
Remote. As this is a fully remote position, candidates are expected to have a dedicated workspace and access to high‑speed internet. This position is limited to a candidate living in the 48 contiguous states. - Travel:
Occasional travel (1-2 times annually) may be required.
- Support monitoring of cash balances and identify discrepancies or issues requiring action.
- Complete reconciliations of cash and investment accounts; investigate discrepancies and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of general ledger through account review, reconciliations, and application of appropriate accounting treatment.
- Maintain documentation supporting accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Support annual budgeting process.
- Prepare financial reports to support monthly management reporting.
- Assist with the compilation of data necessary to complete Form 990.
- Assist with the annual financial statement audit, providing supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests within assigned areas.
- Prepare general department financial reports.
- Support monthly and year‑end close, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and other closing activities.
- Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles when determining appropriate transaction classifications.
- Identify accounting discrepancies or unusual transactions and recommend appropriate resolution to the Director of Finance.
- Assist the Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer with special projects as needed.
- Review, record, and reconcile revenue from gifts, grants, program services, events, and other sources, applying appropriate accounting classification.
- Support tracking of grant and donor restrictions to support appropriate accounting classification.
- Manage daily revenue received through multiple electronic payment methods.
- Monitor and reconcile pledge and other receivables; analyze aging and identify collection or accounting issues.
- Partner with Advancement team to support gift acknowledgement and receipts and ensure alignment with Finance records.
