The opportunity

We are looking for motivated professionals at the Staff or Senior Tax Staff level to join our Payroll and Employment Tax (PET) advisory team in Canada. You will help clients manage payroll compliance obligations, navigate employment tax and social security matters, and assist with domestic and cross-border payroll advisory matters.

The role offers exposure to clients across multiple industries and the opportunity to build technical expertise in Canadian payroll, employment tax, payroll compliance, and advisory services. The scope of responsibility will be tailored to the successful candidate’s experience and level.

This job posting relates to an existing vacancy within our organization.

Your key responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and deliver Canadian expatriate and shadow payroll deliverables to clients.
  • Work with Mobility Tax colleagues locally and globally to provide integrated support on the taxation and reporting of cross-border compensation.
  • Advise clients on employer payroll tax and social security obligations arising from cross-border employee situations, including remote work and business travel.
  • Support clients with payroll and employment tax audits.
  • Research and prepare responses to technical questions relating to payroll, employment tax, taxable benefits, and payroll reporting.
  • Assist clients with payroll tax compliance issues, government agency queries, and practical solutions to employment tax matters.
  • Support client engagements by coordinating deliverables, managing timelines and client expectations, and assisting with budgets, resourcing, invoicing, and collections, as appropriate to level.
  • At the Senior Tax Staff level, review work and support and coach junior colleagues.
  • Contribute to a flexible, collaborative, and team-oriented culture that supports personal development and a positive working environment.
  • Skills and attributes for success

  • An interest in or good understanding of Canadian payroll rules, employment tax, and payroll processes.
  • Experience with payroll reporting, reconciliations, remittances, calculations, or related data analysis, commensurate with level.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with data.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, payroll systems, and other business tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, adapt to changing requirements, and continue learning.
  • To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, human resources, or a related field, or a relevant payroll designation such as the Payroll Compliance Professional designation.
  • For the Staff level: up to two years of relevant experience in payroll, tax, accounting, human resources, finance, or a related area.
  • For the Senior Tax Staff level: at least three years of relevant experience in Canadian payroll advisory or compliance.
  • Ideally, you’ll also have

  • An interest in pursuing, or progress toward, a payroll, accounting, tax, or other relevant professional designation.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills and a demonstrated commitment to learning and professional development.
  • What we look for

We are looking for highly motivated, adaptable, and collaborative professionals who enjoy solving problems, learning technical concepts, and working with clients. Successful candidates will be able to prioritize shifting workloads, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to a dynamic and supportive team environment.
