Revenue Tax Auditor

Join the Bureau of Audits, Altoona Regional Office as a Revenue Tax Auditor and take on meaningful work that supports fair tax practices across the region. This role allows you to apply your strong analytical skills while working directly with taxpayers and businesses. You will help ensure that taxes are reported correctly and that laws are followed. Your efforts will strengthen public trust and support accurate state revenue collection.

This position conducts field audits to determine whether taxpayers are following state tax laws and reporting correctly. The work includes planning audits, reviewing financial records, and communicating findings. As a Revenue Tax Auditor, you will perform the following duties:

• Audit Execution: Conduct audits to determine compliance with relevant laws and regulations
• Field Operations: Work at audit sites to support efficient examinations
• Audit Planning: Review reporting history and instructions to prepare for upcoming assignments
• Taxpayer Communication: Schedule audits and discuss procedures and findings with taxpayers or representatives
• Record Analysis: Examine books and financial records to determine tax liability or verify accurate payments
• Report Preparation: Compile schedules, work papers, and narratives into completed audit reports

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, ad hoc, upon successful completion of the in-office training period of 30 days, based on operational and field work scheduling needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Altoona.

• Successful completion of the Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of professional accounting or auditing experience and a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 15 college credits in accounting, tax, or auditing; or
• Eligibility to sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination.

• You must reside in or be willing to relocate to Blair, Cambria, or Centre County before the date of hire.

• This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
