Remote Payroll Accountant

Our client, a progressive international company with a significant presence in Paarl, Western Cape, is seeking a meticulous and experienced Payroll Accountant to join their team on a fully remote basis. This role is critical for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across various divisions. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll, including calculations, deductions, tax submissions, and reporting, ensuring adherence to labor laws and company policies. • Manage and process the entire payroll cycle for all employees accurately and on time.
• Ensure correct calculation of salaries, wages, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation elements.
• Administer statutory deductions, including PAYE, UIF, and SDL, and ensure timely submissions to relevant authorities.
• Maintain accurate employee payroll records and update personal information, banking details, and other relevant data.
• Reconcile payroll reports with general ledger entries to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, and other relevant South African legislation.
• Process and manage employee benefits, including medical aid and retirement fund contributions.
• Generate and distribute payroll reports to management and other stakeholders as required.
• Handle employee queries related to payroll and provide clear explanations.
• Participate in audits related to payroll and provide necessary supporting documentation.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of direct experience in payroll accounting and administration.
• In-depth knowledge of South African payroll legislation, tax regulations, and SARS submission requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., VIP Payroll, Sage VIP, Pay Space) and MS Excel.
• Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly as they relate to payroll and general ledger integration.
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet strict deadlines.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for remote interaction.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.
