Senior Insurance Accountant

Join our dynamic Institutional Retirement Solutions (IRS) finance team as a Senior Accountant. It’s an exciting time for IRS as we work to broaden our product offerings and implement capabilities new to Securian and in some cases, new to the industry.

* We are open to considering both local and remote talent for this opportunity. If you live within a commutable distance of our St. Paul Home Office, this position follows a hybrid work schedule. If you live outside of a commutable distance, you may be eligible to work as a virtual employee.

• Manages the quarterly financial statements and reporting processes and ensures timely and accurate processing
• Prepares or reviews journal entries and ensures the accuracy of accounting transactions processed, including managing monthly reconciliation processes
• Lead development of accounting samples and completes admin and ERP system testing to support new product offerings or reinsurance transactions
• Performs analysis to understand key trends and variances driving financial results
• Develops and documents procedures and ensures accuracy of accounting
• Supports the preparation and communication of financial information for auditors, insurance examiners, rating agencies, insurance agencies, and IRS leadership
• Participates in projects related to financial reporting or financial contracts
• Identifies opportunities for and leads implementation of process improvements

• Accounting experience with exposure to GAAP, statutory, management-based, and tax for financial reporting and budgeting
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Math, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
• Knowledge of insurance accounting concepts and products
• Demonstrated initiative to serve as a resource for team members and independently manage projects
• Written and verbal communication skills to provide superior customer service to a variety of business partners
• Demonstrated analytical skills to review and analyze financial statements and reports
• Understanding the structure of the data within financial and administration systems
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to effectively multi-task and meet prescribed deadlines on a continuous basis

• CPA designation
• Reinsurance accounting experience
• SAP general ledger experience
