Position Summary: This position has two primary functions: serving as the VA Certifying Official and as a Records Specialist for the Registrar’s office. As UNC Asheville’s VA Certifying Official, the employee certifies veteran students, ensures their compliance and progress toward degree, understands all federal/state rules and regulations as they relate to VA benefits and veteran services, and serves as the primary contact for VA benefit and regulation questions.
The role requires collaboration with Student Accounts, Financial Aid, and academic advisors. As a Records Specialist, the employee processes forms and requests for the Registrar’s office including major/minor declarations, withdrawal forms, late registration, repeat courses, personal information updates such as legal name changes, transcript requests, and enrollment and degree verification requests. The position also performs transfer credit evaluations during peak periods and assists students via email, phone, and one‑on‑one meetings.
The employee shares responsibility for managing the office email account, often the initial point of contact for various constituents and requires a high level of customer service. The role supports day‑to‑day functions of the Office of the Registrar and performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule And
Hours:
Typical office hours are Monday‑Friday from 8:00 am‑5:00 pm. Remote work options are available. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet departmental needs.
