Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced ward clerk/receptionist to join the team in the Theatre Admissions Unit in The Royal Liverpool Hospital.

The Theatre Admissions Unit (TAU) is a large ward area made up of 18 side rooms and 4 'bays' that hold 7 patients. It is a fast paced and dynamic ward/unit that admits all TCI's for the hospital for varying specialities, including but not limited to Urology, Colorectal, HPB, General Surgery, Interventional Radiology and Ophthalmology.

TAU prepares the patients for theatre and also provides post operative care to the day case patients who do not need an overnight stay.

The post holder is expected to assist the Ward/Unit team in providing the highest possible standard of pre and post operative care for patients and their families/carers.

Main duties of the job
  • Reception is staffed 10am till 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • First point of contact for visitors, patients and staff.
  • Liaising with all staff and departments across the Hospital.
  • Training will be provided.
  • Booking outpatient appointments within specialities for post operative patients.
  • Preparing notes for patients TCI'S.
Responsibilities
  • Work 10am-6pm Monday to Friday.
  • Undertake clerical duties including reception/telephone duties, basic computer skills, obtaining case notes/x-rays, filing.
  • Act as messenger in the absence of other more appropriate person e.g. to other wards, laboratory, Medical Engineering etc.
  • Complete maintenance repair forms.
  • Monitor and maintain adequate stock levels of stationary, ward provisions, clean linen etc., completing as necessary requisition forms for authorisation.
  • Provide cover for and undertake duties of absent colleagues as required.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of the organisation.
Person specification Qualifications
  • NVQ level 2/equivalent
Experience
  • Previous experience in a caring role
Skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written & spoken word
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the Healthcare setting
  • Basic Computer Skills
