The role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent, part-time Medical Secretary to join the Cardiology Service within Inverclyde Royal Hospital. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is keen to develop their skills and deliver a high-quality secretarial service.

You will provide efficient and effective medical secretarial support to Consultants and associated medical staff. The role requires excellent organisational skills, the ability to manage competing priorities and a commitment to delivering a professional service to patients and colleagues.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Key responsibilities:

You will provide comprehensive medical secretarial support to Consultants and associated medical staff. Duties include assisting with the organisation of Consultants' workloads, managing calendars and work commitments, and coordinating relevant inpatient waiting lists.

You will deal with patient enquiries in an efficient and professional manner, ensuring a high standard of customer service at all times. The role also requires the ability to work independently, use initiative when required, and provide cross-cover for other secretaries across NHS Clyde to support service delivery and continuity while contributing to the ongoing improvement of working practices and administrative processes within the service.

Knowledge,

training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • Secretarial or administrative qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • High degree of typing speed and accuracy.
  • Competent user of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of providing administrative or secretarial support in a busy environment.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Confidence in dealing with patient enquiries in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Flexible approach to providing cross-cover and supporting wider team functions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and the development of efficient working practices.
