Job Summary Toptal is an innovative organization disrupting the global professional services and talent market. As General Manager, AI, you will serve as end‑to‑end owner of a new, high‑impact business line, building the business from the ground up through market positioning, product‑market fit, and profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure success of the AI business as the single accountable owner of the P&L.
  • Work closely with Executive and Senior Leadership to align the business with Toptal’s growth goals and brand.
  • Analyze market and industry opportunities, identify high‑potential areas, and build and test new offerings with clients.
  • Act as a trusted business partner with clients, guiding them through challenges, while collaborating cross‑functionally with Marketing, Legal, Finance, and Sales.
  • Establish robust analytics and feedback loops to iterate strategy and drive continuous improvement.
  • Onboard and integrate into Toptal; learn the business model, value proposition, and core operations.
  • Within the first month, understand the go‑to‑market model across SMB and Enterprise and articulate Toptal’s capabilities.
  • Conduct market research, develop hypotheses for positioning, partner with Marketing to validate demand, and build initial GTM strategy.
  • Within the first three months, collaborate with Senior Leadership and other functions to develop a launch strategy and begin executing the GTM plan.
  • Within the first six months, assess progress against milestones, refine roadmaps, and ensure AI initiatives scale and align with objectives.
  • In the first year, broaden Toptal’s reach into key industries via AI tools & products, optimize infrastructure, and demonstrate sustained growth.
Qualifications and

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience driving and managing a business with strong operational and management principles.
  • 3+ years managing a business with P&L ownership.
  • Experience in a professional services organization driving growth.
  • Demonstrated success launching a new business or product from scratch.
  • Experience in a technology or hyper‑growth company strongly preferred.
  • Management consulting or investment banking experience preferred.
  • Leadership experience with responsibility for business results in a fast‑paced, multi‑function environment.
  • Strong relationship building & leadership skills, with a history of building credibility across all levels.
  • Experience with marketing technology and automation, including CRMs.
  • Experience establishing high‑impact, revenue‑generating commercial relationships.
  • Analytical skills and track record of delivering results in ambiguous projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a clear understanding of market needs and business goals.
  • Strong command of P&L and financial metrics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Adaptability, managing changing priorities and building consensus.
  • Ownership mindset and dependable leadership.
  • Quality focus and pride in delivery.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, growing company handling varied challenges.
