Position Overview
DEP’s Bureau of OD&HR’s Strategic Workforce Planning & Employee Engagement Directorship is seeking to recruit 10 Engagement & Wellness Liaisons to join us in partnership with external groups such as Work Well NYC, and internal groups as we strive to empower all DEP employees within NYC’s five boroughs and Upstate NY regions live healthy and active lifestyles – at work, at home, and beyond.
We offer convenient and accessible health and wellness programs to DEP employees both in-person and virtually. These are unpaid volunteer positions.
- Organizational delivery and maintenance of engagement and wellness initiatives such as Recognition Events, Lunch‑n‑Learns, Employee Resource & Wellness Groups, etc.
- Research, develop and host programming at various DEP worksites, including developing and finalizing presentations, preparing events, assisting with set‑up and breakdown of event spaces, tracking and compiling participation metrics, distributing employee giveaways, distributing and posting internal communications, and obtaining employee feedback.
- Development and revision of standard operating procedures and process workflows using MS Word and MS Visio.
- Strategic Workforce Planning/Internal Communications initiatives in support of organizational development programs such as Asylum Seekers Volunteer Initiative, Remote Work Pilot, Utility Benchmarking Surveys, etc.
- Miscellaneous clerical duties including recording meeting minutes, updating and organizing unit documents (both physical and on MS SharePoint), data entry, and filing; developing and updating datasheets for program and task tracking.
This is a hybrid opportunity to work in support of various DEP office and field locations across the five boroughs and upstate NY. Some in‑office days are required to support in‑person events.
Qualifications- A current college/university student.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, or willingness to develop them.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- A team player; able to work independently or as part of a team to accomplish set goals.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) and Canva or willingness to learn.
- Must have access to a desktop computer or laptop and an internet connection.
The desired start date is Fall/Winter 2024 onwards with an end date of June 2025, with the possibility of extension. The position requires a commitment of 10‑15 hours/month.
Volunteer SupervisorThis position will report directly to the Director of Strategic Workforce Planning, Employee Engagement & Wellness, and Internal Communications.
Training / Support ProvidedThe Engagement & Wellness Liaisons will receive a NYC Service/DEP orientation and have ongoing check‑ins with their assigned supervisor for the duration of the project.
