The Quality Improvement Specialist plans and executes organization-wide improvement projects to enhance performance and promote efficient use of resources through effective design, measurement, and analysis of key clinical and operational processes. They apply statistical techniques, root cause analysis, Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement tools to drive effective interventions and track implementation. The specialist manages several projects simultaneously.
This position is full‑time remote. Selected candidate must reside in North Carolina. Occasional travel for onsite meetings at the Home office (Morrisville, NC) may be required.
Interdepartmental Project Management- Form a team of experts, document resources, dates, and goals.
- Develop and adhere to a detailed timeline and task list, including key dates, meetings, and projected finish.
- Prepare and present regular project reports to the Project Team, Executives, and the Board of Directors.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review status and make necessary changes to achieve desired results.
- Motivate and influence staff to accomplish tasks successfully.
- Identify and address problems that risk project success within time and budget constraints.
- Create and deliver presentations and trainings to a variety of internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Leverage lean concepts to identify nonvalue-added elements and activities; use quality tools to pinpoint failure points.
- Conduct process mapping, design data collection plans, understand performance variation sources, and communicate principles to a broad audience.
- Define success targets based on internal and external requirements and a well‑thought‑out business case.
- Conduct statistical analysis of initial and repeat measures to evaluate intervention efficacy and improve root‑cause resolution.
- Design sampling plans and measurement systems to assess process capability and overall system performance.
- Evaluate validity and accuracy of data sources to draw appropriate conclusions.
- Perform data analysis to evaluate performance gaps.
- Prepare comprehensive reports with adequate documentation and methodology to support findings and recommendations.
- Generate and evaluate solution ideas using Lean methodologies to reduce waste.
- Develop pilot or simulation plans for proposed improvements, evaluate results, and select optimum solutions.
- Verify reduction in failures due to the targeted root cause.
- Ensure all staff involved are trained to sustain improvements and have a robust monitoring plan to detect future performance issues.
- Advanced Project Management skills.
- Advanced Knowledge of Quality Improvement Methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, etc.).
- Advanced Data Collection & Analysis skills.
- Advanced Communication Skills.
- Advanced Collaboration Skills (problem‑solving, mediation, conflict resolution, teamwork).
- Knowledge and experience with NCQA and HEDIS measurements.
- Medicaid Experience.
- Financial management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience leading large‑scale quality improvement projects or experience gathering, editing, and analyzing data for social and economic research.
- or Master’s degree and three (3) years of experience with large‑scale quality improvement projects or similar data analysis experience.
Certification as a Lean practitioner and/or Six Sigma Black Belt is required within eighteen (18) months of employment.
Salary Range$68,227 – $86,990 annually.
Exact compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s education, experience, external market data, and internal equity.
