Social Care Practitioner

Permanent

Grade B - £28,598 - £33,699

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive and confident Social Care Practitioner to join our Mental Health AMHP team. This is a fast-paced, rewarding role supporting the delivery of Mental Health Act Assessments (MHAAs), coordinating AMHP allocations, and ensuring the accuracy and safety of statutory processes.

You will work closely with AMHPs, Senior Practitioners, hospitals, police, courts, and wider mental health services to ensure smooth multi-agency communication. Accurate record keeping is essential as the role is largely administrative.

This role is ideal for someone with strong administrative and coordination skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for supporting citizens during periods of crisis.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Daily liaison with hospitals to identify MHA assessment needs
  • Supporting AMHP allocation and recording statutory information
  • Managing referrals, risks and multi-agency communication
  • Coordinating interpreters, warrants, animal boarding and property protection
  • Ensuring accurate record-keeping and case management
  • Supporting staff safety with end-of-day wellbeing checks
What we’re looking for:
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication with professionals and families
  • Ability to manage sensitive information safely
  • Confident in administrative tasks, accurate record keeping and adhering to GDPR regulations
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act processes (desirable)
  • Experience in mental health, social care or safeguarding (desirable)

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, and you will be required to attend the office once a week.
