Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
Job IntroductionWe’re recruiting a Procurement Officer to join our Corporate Procurement team at Milton Keynes City Council.
We deliver a wide range of services for local people and spend around £200 million each year on goods, services and works. Our procurement activity plays a key role in making sure we get the best value for money while delivering high-quality outcomes for our communities.
Working as part of a supportive and well organised team, you’ll manage procurement projects, advise colleagues, and help shape how services are delivered across the council. Your work will directly support our aim to make our city a better place to live.
This is a rewarding role suited to someone with procurement experience, or someone working towards a recognised qualification, who is ready to take ownership of their own work and contribute to meaningful outcomes for local people.
This role may be suitable for home working
, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.

- Manage a portfolio of procurement projects, from £25,000 through to higher value contracts, ensuring value for money
- Deliver procurement activity using best practice to support service improvement and efficiencies
- Support colleagues to develop tender documents, evaluation approaches and approval reports
- Build positive relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
- Work with service areas to understand their needs and help shape the right procurement approach
- Use the council’s e‑tendering system to run procurement processes and reporting
- Working towards, or holding, a Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Level 4 Diploma (or similar)
- Knowledge of public sector or local government procurement processes and regulations
- Experience of procurement activity, with the ability to analyse financial and performance data
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly
- Ability to work collaboratively and build strong professional relationships
- Motivated, organised, and able to take ownership of work
