This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a growing consultancy with high standards, expand on your technical knowledge and build meaningful client relationships within a varied role in a supportive environment. The successful candidate will support the delivery of health and safety consultancy services across a range of clients and sectors. The role will involve a mixture of office-based work, site visits, client support, research, report writing and shadowing experienced consultants.
As confidence and competence develop, the successful candidate will be given increasing responsibility, with appropriate guidance and support. The successful Junior Health and Safety Consultant will be required to:
- Assist with health and safety audits, inspections and compliance reviews, including gathering evidence, taking notes, identifying observations and supporting the preparation of action plans. Complete or support site-specific risk assessments, including COSHH, manual handling and DSE assessments, with guidance from senior colleagues where required. Support the development and review of client health and safety documentation, including policies, procedures, risk assessments, safe systems of work and management system documents.
Provide on-site and remote support to lower-risk clients, while shadowing experienced consultants on more complex sites, projects and client environments. Assist with the preparation and delivery of toolbox talks, briefings, training sessions and workshops, initially under the guidance of experienced consultants. Support consultants with CDM-related duties, including gathering project information, reviewing basic documentation and helping clients understand their responsibilities. Support clients with health and safety accreditation processes by collating information, maintaining records and helping to manage online accreditation portals.
Provide practical, proportionate advice to non-complex clients, escalating technical queries or higher-risk matters to senior consultants where appropriate. Prepare clear, accurate and professional reports, meeting notes, action trackers and client documentation for review before issue. The ideal Junior Health and Safety Consultant will have:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupation Health and Safety or equivalent. A desire to develop within the field of health and safety with a commitment to ongoing professional development. Confidence to type notes and information accurately, with a willingness to have a go at drafting simple reports, meeting notes and client documents with support and feedback from experienced consultants. Desire to work as part of a team.
Good communication skills. Ability to think logically and identify practical solutions. Professional approach. Reliable and organised nature. Courage to speak up and ask questions. Strong IT skills. Adaptable approach. Strong accuracy and attention to detail. Full driving licence essential. Must have access to own vehicle but mileage will be fully expensed by Company. Flexibility to travel; after initial training period you are able to work from home if preferred, but you must be willing to travel to client’s sites throughout the UK, with occasional overnight stays if required.
Benefits to include:
- A competitive basic salary of £32,000 will be offered. Hybrid or home working offered after initial training period. Structured support, mentoring and on-the-job learning from experienced consultants. Investment in relevant training and continuing professional development to help you build competence and confidence. A clear opportunity to progress as your experience, technical capability and professional judgement develop.
