Overview

As an Assistant Buyer you will liaise with suppliers and external agencies as well as internal colleagues from Regions, National Supply Chain Management, Advertising, Communications, CR and Quality. Our buying teams move quickly to stay ahead of our customers, involving themselves in every aspect of the buying lifecycle from tender documents and data analysis to preparing samples and reviewing market data.

Your New Role
  • Work with Buying Director/Buying Manager and the supply base on new product development, product launches and ongoing product supply.
  • Have full and thorough knowledge of products and suppliers.
  • Manage the efficient and accurate flow of communication both internally and externally.
  • Ensure that all manual and computerised bulletin procedures and files are accurate and up to date at all times, including CBIS and Point of Sale information.
  • Manage all due diligence, advertising, and related issues for new products/specials from the point of order placement to bulletin issue.
  • Understand complex POS/financial data from various sources and be able to analyse this on Excel.
  • Carry out general administration, word processing, data entry and filing.
  • Ensure that a polite and professional manner is maintained in all internal / external communications.
  • Contribute positively and constructively to the Buying Team.
About You
  • Sufficient commercial and/or retailing experience.
  • Agriculture/Horticulture knowledge.
  • Experience of working in a highly commercial environment (e.g. Retail, FMCG).
  • Positive, can-do attitude. Hardworking and flexible.
  • Exceptional levels of organisation and deadline adherence. Open and honest in communication.
  • Ability to manage a variety of suppliers with differing routes to market.
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced environment. A good sense of urgency and adaptability under pressure.
  • An experienced, high performing colleague. Fully responsible for managing Suppliers on every operational aspect.
  • Displays ownership for current category/area of responsibility, namely; availability, supplier management, new product launch deadlines, innovation, idea generation, administrative deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and cross functional environment. Excellent attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to plan ahead, prioritise duties, and meet deadlines with a high level of personal organisation. A self-starter with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Intellectually curious and takes the initiative. Demonstrated aptitude, motivation, and performance in previous roles.
  • Microsoft skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of data.
  • Buying/Procurement experience is desirable.
What You’ll Get in Return
  • Salary starting from £37,545 rising to £43,840
  • Contract length / Permanent contract
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, with the opportunity of 2 days a week remote working (changing to 1 day a week remote working from January 2027)
