Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager

About the role

Balfour Beatty are looking for a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to join our Highways Connect Plus Services team.

We have various site offices based around the M25 network, this role can be based from Blunts Farm, Dartford, Denham, Leatherhead, Scratchwood, South Mimms or Swanley. Travel throughout the network is also required, a company car is provided with the role.

The HSW Manager will assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of processes aimed at managing health, safety & well-being risks within the Project. The role will support the organisation’s ambition to be a safe and responsible company regarding our people, supply chain partners and the communities we serve.

- Balfour Beatty, Atkins and Egis Road Operation UK. With around 600 people, based at eight locations across the M25 network, we work on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways to manage the operation of the M25 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, from routine maintenance to managing the whole-life requirement of thousands of assets across the network.

This role will be principally engaged in:

• Provide day to day management, guidance, support and mentoring to the other HSW advisors.
• Being a visible champion for HSW throughout the project engaging with Operatives and Managers
• Oversee the implementation of Organisational Standards relating to HSW at a local level providing feedbacking to the HSW Managers on any areas of improvement or potential conflict with business requirements
• Monitor the delivery of the communications strategy to keep HSW on the operational delivery agenda and report back to the HSW Managers on the levels of effective communication
• To support the delivery of appropriate and adequate HSW training based on Project needs
• Support/ undertake targeted inspections of HSW management system and supply chain audits, tracking & supporting actions to close out
• Managing own diary and stakeholder communications to plan, schedule and conduct inspections and HSW conversations with site & depot-based teams
• To prepare and communicate timely reports and presentations detailing performance data on inspection findings, tracking & supporting actions to close out
• To positively represent the Health, Safety & Well-being function and its strategy during conference calls and meetings
• To review work activities against safety system of work taking appropriate action and providing documented advice where necessary
• Lead and support incident investigations, ensuring incidents are dealt with effectively with actions tracked to close out

• Membership of a relevant professional body (IOSH)
• Professional qualification in health and safety (minimum NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)
• A current CSCS Card
• Clean, full driving license
• Experience managing a team of HSW Advisors
• Able to utilise a suite of Microsoft Office applications and digital platforms at an intermediate level to review data, identify themes and prepare representative graphs.

Desirable:

• Prior site-based construction experience
• Knowledge and experience of working in a Highways construction / maintenance environment
• Experience of working on a Joint Venture
