Position: Regional Energy Strategic Planning Analyst (Greater )

About the Role

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), our greatest asset is our people. Together, we are shaping a sustainable future where clean and affordable energy is accessible to everyone. Every day presents an opportunity to make a meaningful impact, driving the progress of energy solutions in Great Britain, connecting communities, and contributing to a brighter tomorrow. From April 2025, the National Energy System Operator (NESO) has taken on the exciting new role of being the Regional Energy Strategic Planner.

We are responsible for developing 11 Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) across Great Britain. Our Greater London based team will work with other NESO teams and organisations at a local level ('local actors'), including local government and gas and electricity networks, in developing the Greater London RESP. As the RESP Analyst (Greater London), you will contribute to the development of the region's RESP by providing robust supporting analysis and contributing to a range of projects.

This will include undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis of key aspects of the whole energy system in your region as well as supporting the central RESP hub team in their analysis, and collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders. You will report to the RESP Regional Manager and will work closely with other members of the regional team. Having an understanding and lived experience of the Greater London region will be key.

This role is home based but with the expectation of regular use of our London Hub (minimum once a week). Some travel will be expected (e.g., to NESO Warwick Office for central team workshops or within regions to meet with key stakeholders). We are open to full time and part-time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

This role's key accountability will be ensuring their regional team's development and delivery of RESP is backed up by robust analysis, with insights effectively communicated to a wide range of stakeholders. The regional analyst will:
Lead on individual pieces of analysis, being responsible for structuring and project managing their own work, managing their own time, providing regular progress updates and delivering work of the required quality to meet deadlines. For instance, analysing responses to our consultations & requests for information, or identifying, interrogating, a transforming local data sources for integration in RESP components. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of key aspects of the whole energy system in your region.

Implement and refine analytical methods being used elsewhere in RESP to reflect the needs of the Greater London region and to reflect emerging best-practice. Work collaboratively with other members of the RESP regional and central teams, and with other teams across NESO; particularly with the Greater London Data Quality and Insight Analyst. Confidently interact with a broad range of external stakeholders.

Support the identification and prioritisation of new stakeholders to engage. Represent the company when communicating with external stakeholders, keeping clear records of interactions through our CRM system. Design, support and assist in facilitating workshops and other group working sessions to progress the development and delivery of RESP in your region. Produce and deliver clear, concise reports and slide packs in presenting the results of your and others' analysis to progress the RESP.

Ensure that the key messages are relevant, clear, and pitched appropriately for the audience. Audiences will include your team, wider RESP and NESO teams, and may also include presenting to and answering questions from external audiences including the RESP external Working Groups.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment. Visa sponsorship may not be available for this role and will be considered in line with business requirements.
