Position: Commercial Analyst - Acquisitions (12 Months Maternity Cover)
Location: Greater London

Job Description

Due to a member of our Commercial Acquisitions team going on maternity leave we have an opportunity for a Commercial Analyst to join us on a maternity cover contract.

Role Overview

The Commercial Analyst - Acquisitions will support the commercial evaluation and implementation of new journal and book acquisitions, help identify opportunities for revenue growth for recent acquisitions, and assist in coordinating sales enablement activities to ensure customers understand the value proposition of new journals and books to increase investment, and work across commercial, including with the retention team, to support direct and long tail sales.

The role will require commercial analysis and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

Acquisition Analysis

  • Support the Commercial Acquisitions Manager to gather and organize market data to support the evaluation of potential journal and book acquisitions
  • Assist in analysing commercial potential of acquisition targets
  • Compile competitive intelligence and market research to inform commercial decisions

Performance Tracking

  • Collect and organise performance data for recently acquired journals and books
  • Help maintain tracking spreadsheets and dashboards for first-year acquisition performance
  • Flag underperforming acquisitions for further review and analysis

Sales Support Coordination

  • Assist in gathering product information for new acquisitions to support sales enablement
  • Help coordinate the development of sales materials with the central academic team
  • Support the distribution of acquisition information to relevant sales teams

Cross-Functional Support

  • Liaise with editorial teams to collect information about acquisition rationales
  • Support communication between commercial, editorial, and sales teams
  • Attend cross-functional meetings and take detailed notes
  • Help organize and schedule acquisition review sessions

Development Opportunities

  • Build expertise in commercial analysis and business development
  • Gain exposure to senior leadership through project work
  • Develop understanding of academic publishing business models
  • Build cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Progress toward more senior commercial roles

Qualifications

Required Experience & Skills

  • Strong data fluency and an ability to maintain accuracy across multiple platforms and systems e.g. SAP, Excel etc.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with an ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a focus on clear storytelling and logical presentation of findings
  • Highly organised with strong time management skills and ability to prioritise effectively under pressure
  • Skilled at building cross-functional relationships

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in commercial analysis, business development or sales operations/enablement
  • Knowledge of subscription and open access business models

The successful candidate will be able to utilise our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance of our office in Blackfriars, London to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location to collaborate as required. There is an expectation for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person time.
