We are looking for a versatile and experienced Senior Business Analyst to join our team based from Helensburgh, Scotland. This role benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern, offering a 4-day working week Monday - Thursday and hybrid working, with typically 2 days a week onsite and 2 days working from home (subject to business needs)
As our Senior Business Analyst you will operate primarily within an Agile software development environment, while also possessing the ability to write formal URDs (User Requirements Documentation) more aligned to traditional waterfall projects. You will play a key role in shaping, capturing, and delivering requirements across complex programmes within a secure and highly regulated environment. Working closely with stakeholders, developers, and operational teams, you will help design and implement systems that support hundreds of users across the Ministry of Defence and contribute directly to critical operational decision making.
The successful candidate will operate across multiple disciplines and work streams, leading analysis activities and supporting delivery throughout the project lifecycle. Alongside strong collaboration skills, you must be comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects, deliverables, and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Write high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria for Agile delivery teams
Produce User Requirements Documents (URDs), process documentation, and supporting project artefacts
Run yearly reviews of software with the customer to confirm applications are operating as required and document improvements
Facilitate stakeholder workshops to gather, validate, and prioritise requirements
Develop As-Is and To-Be process models to support business change and service improvements
Act as the liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams within a Dev Ops environment
Support application delivery life cycles, ensuring alignment with business and operational objectives
Contribute to backlog management, sprint planning
Maintain end-to-end traceability of requirements through delivery, testing, and implementation
Manage requirements throughout their lifecycle, from initial concept and epic definition through to user story refinement
Operate across multiple work streams, balancing competing priorities and delivery timelines
Engage with defence stakeholders while ensuring adherence to security and regulatory standards

Proven experience as a Business Analyst Experience working within a Dev Ops environment
Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and traditional Waterfall delivery approaches
Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, URDs, and formal specifications
Experience facilitating workshops and engaging stakeholders at all organisational levels
Proficiency in process mapping and business analysis techniques, including As-Is and To-Be modelling
Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple work streams
Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences
Experience supporting delivery activities and managing work streams or project components
Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Visio Desired Skills Experience as a Business Analyst within Defence, MoD or similar Government Department
