Agri-Business Development Manager - Sustainable Food Chains

Our client, a dynamic organization focused on building sustainable and inclusive food supply chains, is looking for an experienced Agri-Business Development Manager based in or near Polokwane, Limpopo . This role is pivotal in identifying, developing, and managing partnerships with agricultural producers, cooperatives, and related businesses. The focus is on enhancing market access, improving value chains, and promoting sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of agricultural markets, business development principles, and a passion for rural economic development.

This Hybrid role combines strategic planning and administrative tasks from a home office or co-working space with regular travel to meet with stakeholders across the Limpopo province and occasionally beyond.

• Identify and evaluate new business opportunities within the agricultural sector, focusing on sustainable and ethical sourcing.
• Develop and implement strategies to strengthen market linkages for smallholder farmers and agricultural SMEs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including farmers, cooperatives, buyers, and government agencies.
• Negotiate and manage contracts and agreements with business partners.
• Provide technical assistance and business advisory services to producers to improve quality, productivity, and market competitiveness.
• Monitor market trends, identify emerging opportunities, and assess competitive landscape.
• Develop business cases and proposals for new initiatives and projects.
• Oversee project implementation, ensuring objectives are met within budget and timelines.
• Contribute to the organization's strategic planning and reporting processes.
• Champion the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices throughout the value chain.

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is an advantage.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in business development, project management, or value chain analysis within the agricultural or food sector.
• Proven track record of identifying and developing new business opportunities and managing partnerships.
• Strong understanding of agricultural value chains, market dynamics, and supply chain management.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with smallholder farmers or farmer cooperatives is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of sustainable agriculture principles and practices.
• Proficiency in financial analysis, business planning, and proposal writing.
• Ability to travel extensively within the Limpopo province and occasionally nationally.
• Comfortable working in a hybrid model, requiring self-discipline and effective remote work management.
