Substructure is the layer underneath your favorite nonprofit theatre. We combine cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of how theatre organizations work, so our clients can simplify and keep their focus on the art instead of on systems and processes. We do this through two services:

Fractional General Management: handling contracts, negotiations, CBAs, budgets and payroll. Current clients include Indiana Repertory Theatre (LORT

C) and Geva Theatre (LORT

B).

Operations Redesign + Simplification: Nobody went into theatre to spend their days pushing paper, scheduling Zooms, fighting SharePoint and chasing signatures. We evaluate and redesign theatres’ systems, so their people can spend less time in front of screens and more time creating art and engaging with audiences.
We’re hiring an Associate General Manager to work across both services, from contracts and budgets to process mapping and testing the tools we build. Our next AGM should bring previous experience in theatrical general management or a directly related role, an investment in the future of the American theatre, and an unrelenting curiosity and an urge to tweak and improve things.

This is not a technical role, but you should be comfortable with technology and genuinely enjoy figuring out a new tool or system and sharing your learning with others.

Substructure is a startup, positioned for growth. We are 100% remote (occasional travel may be required), and this position will operate on a four-day workweek with a flexible schedule.
