Travel Required | Charleston, SC + Seasonal Residences
Compensation: Competitive salary, commensurate with experience
Schedule: Approximately 30 hours per week of governess work, plus up to 10 hours per week of light household support; occasional weekend hours (e.g. travel, babysitting)
Role OverviewA family of three seeks a professional Governess to guide their three-year-old daughter’s early education within a thoughtful, home-based learning environment.
The family follows a rhythm-centered, nature-rooted approach to early childhood education, influenced by Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, and Classical learning traditions. Learning unfolds through story, play, art, movement, nature, and daily life on their biodynamic farms.
The parents work from home, and are closely involved in their child’s life. Seasonal time is spent between residences in South Carolina and California, and the Governess travels with the family as part of the role.
This is a governess-first position. Limited household support tasks exist to support overall household flow and remain secondary to the governess role.
Primary Responsibilities — Governess- Guide daily learning through:
- Storytelling, reading, early literacy and numeracy
- Nature exploration, arts and crafts, music, movement, and practical life
- Imaginative play and seasonal themes
- Maintain organized and inspired learning and play spaces
- Support daily transitions and routines with steadiness and consistency
- Adapt learning experiences across environments, seasons, and during travel
- Observe progress and share thoughtful, concise updates with the parents
- Step back gracefully when parents are leading an activity or spending time with the child
These tasks support household continuity and are scheduled outside core educational hours:
- Light pet care (feeding, walking, basic coordination)
- Simple errands and household support tasks as directed
- Assistance with packing/unpacking and transitions during travel
- Occasional help with seasonal household projects
This role does not involve household management, staff supervision, or administrative authority.

- Bachelor’s degree required
- Valid driver’s license and passport
