Pay Range

$103,500 – $157,464 Annually (TSS.
1) and $124,200 – $157,464 Annually (TSS.
2). This is the lowest to highest salary range in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The position may offer a hybrid schedule with flexibility to work from home after a probationary period.

Job Description

We have an opening for a Field Engineer. As a Field Engineer in the Project Management Office (PMO), you’ll provide advanced technical and administrative oversight for construction projects, including managing our Mission-Driven Craft Labor Contract (MDCL) and other subcontracts that impact LLNL’s critical infrastructure. You’ll be the technical support for these subcontracted projects, coordinating with the project construction manager in planning, coordinating, and communicating all construction activities with various LLNL stakeholders including the design team, integrated safety team, project controls analysts, and project manager.

will
  • Ensure safety compliance: adhere to safety regulations and quality standards throughout all project phases, coordinating high‑risk activities with the construction manager and integrated safety team.
  • Monitor subcontractor’s safety program for compliance with LLNS‑approved project‑related safety programs and enforce adherence.
  • Monitor subcontractor’s schedule and proactively manage time‑critical issues to ensure project milestones are met, coordinating/scheduling “hold‑point” and/or special “safety hold‑point” inspections.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments: inspect and evaluate work sites to identify potential problems and suggest improvements in coordination with the Construction Manager & Subcontract Technical Representatives.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and facilitate resolution of technical issues between facility operators to minimize risks.
  • Document and report: create detailed technical reports and daily reports, maintain organized project records, and document any changes that affect schedule, design, scope, or cost.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, project managers, and clients to assess project issues and develop resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Provide daily oversight of construction activities to verify safe and effective coordination. Work with the facility operations team or LLNL internal support teams such as line locators, lock‑out/tag‑out, energy owners, subject matter experts, hoisting & rigging, mechanical, electrical, and other labor support.
  • Provide recommendations during planning, managing, and executing construction activities, implementing DOE, safety, quality, and commissioning requirements.
  • Oversee the Request for Information (RFI) and submittal processes, ensuring timely generation, distribution, and resolution of issues to prevent construction delays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

2 Level
  • Perform constructability reviews and suggest solutions to complex design packages; lead pre‑construction meetings, weekly coordination meetings, and prepare meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Independently diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues that arise during construction.
  • Identify risks in designs, estimates and perform feasibility studies.
