GPI has immediate openings for highway and bridge construction inspectors statewide to work on NCDOT projects in North Carolina. The candidate should be motivated and capable of working independently and with the GPI/NCDOT Project Team. Candidates must be available to work the contractors hours of operation, up to and including day or night shift and weekends, as necessary for project completion.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily field inspections and observations of contractor work for heavy highway and/or bridge construction projects, including earthwork, subgrade, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, structural steel, MOT, safety devices, and utilities.
  • Ability to measure, compute, record, and maintain contract quantities for contractor payment.
  • Capability to read and interpret project plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Perform and/or observe material sampling and testing by project standards and specifications.
  • Ensure contractors work/materials meet standards and specifications.
  • Ability to properly document daily project progress, including work performed, conformance/nonconformance with plans/specifications, workforce, equipment, contract quantities, and extra work.
  • Enter and record project progress, materials, payments, and documentation in SharePoint and/or other electronic software programs.
  • Identify and clearly communicate project issues to project managers and the contractor.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and communicate unsafe conditions with the contractor.
Qualifications
  • NCDOT or other DOT Construction inspection experience
  • Inspection certifications with NCDOT
  • QMS Roadway
  • ABC/Borrow Pit Sampling
  • Conventional Density
  • Erosion and Sediment Control
  • NCDOT/ACI Field Grade I Concrete Testing Technician
