Traveling Construction Materials Technician II
Terracon is inviting applicants for the Traveling Construction Materials Technician II role. This position requires 100% travel across the Eastern Midwest division (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia) to perform field testing and analysis of construction materials for high‑profile projects such as transportation, commercial buildings, and wind farms.
General Responsibilities- Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.
- Communicate results with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors.
- Transport material samples and submit laboratory results in written and digital reports.
- Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist in scheduling and dispatch of technicians to project sites.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and perform pre‑task planning.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute testing and inspection as per training and procedures.
- Document findings and results accurately.
- Analyze data and verify accuracy before submission.
- Communicate information to the Project Manager.
- Assist higher‑level technicians on complex tasks.
- Maintain assigned equipment and calibration.
- Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
- Follow safety rules and report concerns to management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of materials testing experience.
- Proficiency with laptop computer, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
- ACI certification in one or more of the following:
Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician. - Certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
- Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
- ICC certification in Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector.
- ASNT Level II certification in VT, MT, PT, RT, UT.
- Other national, regional, state, and local material related certifications considered if appropriate.
This position is Remote Only; employees work from home or another location.
Salary RangeAnnual base salary range: $19.50–$27.50 per hour. Final compensation is based on qualifications and experience.
