The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a highly respected specialist construction contractor delivering complex projects across the nuclear, industrial, infrastructure and commercial sectors.

The company has built an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging construction, engineering and fit out projects within highly regulated environments. Working alongside some of the UK's largest principal contractors and end clients, they deliver specialist construction solutions from pre-construction through to final handover, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, collaboration and innovation.

With a substantial pipeline of secured work at Hinkley Point and across the South West, they are looking to strengthen their commercial team with an experienced Quantity Surveyor capable of managing significant projects independently.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to take full commercial responsibility for projects valued at up to £15 million. Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and the wider commercial team, you will oversee all financial and contractual aspects of multiple construction packages from procurement through to final account.

Projects are varied and include commercial fit out, industrial construction, specialist building packages, reinforced concrete structures, civil engineering works, infrastructure and technically demanding projects within the nuclear sector.

The successful candidate will be commercially driven, possess a strong understanding of construction methodologies and be confident working autonomously while managing client relationships and project finances.

Key Responsibilities

Take full commercial ownership of projects valued up to £15 million.

Manage all commercial activities from pre-construction through to final account.

Prepare subcontract enquiries, analyse tenders and procure subcontract packages.

Administer subcontract accounts, valuations, variations and final accounts.

Prepare applications for payment and client valuations.

Manage change control, compensation events and contractual notifications.

Produce monthly CVRs, cost reports, forecasts and cash flow reports.

Monitor project budgets and identify opportunities to maximise value and profitability.

Provide commercial support and advice to Project Managers and operational teams.

Attend client meetings, commercial reviews and project progress meetings.

Negotiate subcontractor accounts and resolve commercial issues.

Identify commercial risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.

Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor or specialist construction contractor.

Proven ability to independently manage projects valued up to £15 million.

Strong knowledge of procurement, cost reporting, valuations, variations and final accounts.

Experience with NEC contracts is highly desirable, although experience with JCT or other standard forms of contract will also be considered.

Previous experience within construction, industrial, infrastructure, engineering or nuclear sectors would be advantageous.

Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Strong commercial awareness with a practical understanding of construction delivery.

Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative commercial team.

Qualifications

Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.

Full UK Driving Licence.

Security clearance for Hinkley Point would be advantageous, although candidates willing to undertake the clearance process are encouraged to apply.

Working Pattern

This role is primarily site and office based to support project delivery at Hinkley Point. Flexibility is offered, with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week where project commitments allow.

What's on Offer

Competitive salary or day rate depending on experience.

Long-term opportunity on one of the UK's largest and most prestigious construction projects.

Flexible working arrangements, including the potential for one day per week working from home.

Excellent career progression with a growing specialist contractor.

Exposure to a diverse portfolio of technically challenging, high-value construction projects.

Supportive and collaborative commercial team.

Strong pipeline of secured work across the nuclear, industrial and infrastructure sectors.

If you are a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor looking to take ownership of major projects while working on one of the UK's most significant construction programmes, we would be delighted to hear from you.
