Balfour Beatty have been selected to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you'll be doingAs a Quantity Surveyor
, you'll play a key role in managing the commercial performance of your projects, ensuring value for money while maintaining the highest standards of quality and governance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing project costs, budgets, forecasts and reporting for your area of responsibility.
- Reviewing tender information and preparing activity and resource schedules.
- Negotiating subcontract packages, variations and compensation events.
- Monitoring subcontractor performance and commercial outcomes.
- Supporting the preparation of claims, delay and disruption submissions where required.
- Building strong relationships with customers, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
- Assisting with procurement strategies and programme development.
- Supporting, mentoring and developing junior members of the commercial team.
- Promoting continuous improvement, LEAN principles and digital ways of working.
We're looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record of managing project costs and commercial outcomes on major construction or infrastructure projects.
Essential:
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent).
- Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB, or working towards professional qualification.
- Experience managing project costs, forecasts and commercial reporting.
- Strong understanding of contract administration and change management.
- Experience working closely with clients, supply chain partners and project teams.
- Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable:
- Chartered status (MRICS, MCICES or MCIOB).
- Experience leading or mentoring Assistant, Graduate or Trainee Quantity Surveyors.
- Experience working on large infrastructure, energy or major projects.
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
