A Snapshot of Your Day
As the demand for energy sector infrastructure is rapidly increasing, we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Contracts Manager to join our growing team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This role is within our financial and commercial team comprising of Quantity Surveyors (Commercial Contract Managers) working closely with our project financial controllers (Commercial Project Managers) and project accountants who together are responsible for the cost and commercial management of our extensive portfolio of complex high voltage substation projects across the United Kingdom.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- By supporting our Project Manager & Commercial Project managers in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks & opportunities.
- Taking ownership and administering subcontracts on a day-to-day basis.
- Managing subcontract / supplier final account settlements.
- Ensuring timely submission of contractual notifications.
- Providing timely updates to our Project Managers & Commercial Project managers on the accurate financial status, including forecast out-turn positions of subcontractor / key supplier accounts.
- Attending project meetings with site, customer and joint venture partner stakeholders at their office premises or construction sites.
- Taking ownership of project change management and claims, relating to both the main contract with our customers and our subcontractors / key suppliers.
- Collaborating and effectively communicating with the wider project team, giving contractual advice relative to the successful execution of the project.
- Supporting the procurement department by advising on and drafting contractual terms and conditions for the placement of project subcontract work packages.
- Liaising with our legal team reviewing and evaluating subcontract terms and conditions aligned to our main customer contracts.
- Identifying, evaluating, and following up on all events relevant for incoming and outgoing claims and variations.
- Collecting and preparing relevant claim and or variation particulars.
- Performing quantum and/or delay analyses to establish causation for relevant events impacting the scope of works and or project schedule.
- Pursuing and / or defending incoming and outgoing claims; including the collation of relevant project records, documentation, and appropriate evidence / facts, through to satisfactory conclusion.
- Establishing and substantiating cause and effect necessary to demonstrate entitlement to quantum and / or additional time in accordance with the salient conditions of contract.
- Actively building positive relationships with our Customers, Joint Venture Partners, and Subcontract / Key Supplier teams.
- Developing and improving contract and claim management processes and strategies.
What You Bring
- Experience in quantity surveying / contract management and/or commercial project management.
- Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Construction and Engineering Forms of Contract; extensive experience with the NEC Contract. (familiarity with FIDIC and MF/1 desirable in addition)
- Experience with M&E + Civil construction technologies would be advantageous.
