Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location:
Manchester Airport Working Pattern: 4 days on site, 1 day working from home
Employment Type:
Permanent The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure project based at Manchester Airport, focused on enhancing the existing railway station and increasing rail capacity. The project involves significant civil engineering and rail works, including station remodelling, platform extensions and track layout modifications to accommodate additional and longer trains. With the project progressing from initial civils activities, including piling, into more rail-specific works, this is an excellent opportunity to join a major infrastructure scheme at an exciting stage of delivery.
Working closely with the Managing Quantity Surveyor and the wider commercial team, you will play a key role in managing project costs, forecasting and subcontract commercial activities, while providing support and guidance to the wider team.
Key Responsibilities Manage and maintain accurate cost forecasts, ensuring effective financial control throughout the project. Support the Managing Quantity Surveyor with commercial reporting and overall project performance. Administer NEC contracts, including NEC Option C main contracts and NEC Option A subcontract arrangements. Manage subcontract procurement, administration and commercial performance. Ensure compliance with internal procurement procedures and commercial processes. Identify commercial risks and opportunities, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies.
Provide commercial support and guidance to the wider team, including Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors. Work autonomously, taking ownership of key commercial responsibilities and contributing to successful project delivery. About You To be successful in this role, you will have a strong commercial background within civil engineering, rail or major infrastructure projects, ideally gained working for a Tier 1 contractor.
You will be commercially astute, proactive and comfortable managing your own workload, with the ability to adapt quickly to established processes and procedures. You will ideally have:
Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor or equivalent commercial role. Strong knowledge and experience of NEC contracts. Experience in cost forecasting, cost control and commercial reporting. Experience administering NEC Option A subcontracts. An understanding of NEC Option C contracts and their commercial requirements. Experience in procurement and subcontract management. The ability to support and guide colleagues within a wider commercial team.
Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills. Rail experience would be advantageous, but candidates with a strong background in civil engineering or wider infrastructure projects will also be considered. Experience working within a Tier 1 contracting environment is particularly desirable. Previous management experience would also be beneficial. The Project and Working Environment You will join an established commercial team comprising a Managing Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, two Assistant Quantity Surveyors and a Regional Commercial Manager.
The role offers the opportunity to work on a significant airport rail infrastructure scheme, contributing to the delivery of complex civil engineering and railway works. The position is based at Manchester Airport, with on-site parking and convenient access to the station. The standard working arrangement is four days on site and one day working from home, subject to any formally agreed flexible working arrangements.
Why Apply? This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to take on a key role within a major infrastructure project, develop their rail experience and work alongside an established commercial team. If you have strong NEC contract experience, enjoy taking ownership of commercial responsibilities and are looking for your next permanent opportunity within the infrastructure sector, we would welcome a conversation.
