Award-winning weekly newspaper seeks talented reporter and writer. Candidate must have experience writing for a newspaper or on-line news organization, be self-motivated but also a team player and be organized. Reporter must be able to generate stories on his or her own as well as take assignments from the Editor. Degree in journalism or communications preferred. Reporter will need their own motorized transportation.

We do weekly in-person staff meetings, and have office space reporters can use for interviews or writing, but otherwise employees work from home.

Duties include writing two to three moderately long articles per week, as well as numerous briefs. The reporter will also take photos of subjects and events he or she covers. The reporter helps with copy editing on production day and with posting pieces on the web page and on social media.

The Alexandria Times is a true investigative newspaper and our reporter will also work on longer-term pieces. Topics covered in the reporter’s portfolio will include hard news about city government, local schools and crime along with features about local residents and sports writing. Social media and podcasting experience, photographic proficiency and/or fluency in Spanish would enhance an applicant’s chances.
