Performing Arts Director

Full-time non-exempt

35 hours per week

2 days per week work-from-home (as approved and with event weeks excluded)

Arts Council Oklahoma City is a nonprofit dedicated to enriching lives through the arts. We produce year-round events, offer education programs, and build partnerships to connect our community through creativity. We are seeking a strategic and creative Performing Arts Director to increase our reach and engage diverse audiences.

Position Overview

The Performing Arts Director would lead all performing arts strategy, programming, partnerships, and production across ACOKC’s initiatives—driving engagement through live performance, outreach, and artistic excellence citywide.

The Performing Arts Director is responsible for the coordination and implementation of Art Moves, overseeing all creative, administrative, and community‑engagement aspects of the program. Art Moves offers free weekly arts programming throughout Oklahoma City. The program features artists of all disciplines, including visual, musical, dance, etc., and takes place in over 20 sites, both virtual and in‑person. Reporting to the Executive Director, they ensure the program fulfills its mission of connecting artists with the public in vibrant, accessible ways.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (Arts Administration, Communications, Performing Arts, or related).
  • Preferably 2–5 years’ experience in arts program management, public‑facing cultural initiatives, or event leadership.
Project & Program Management
  • Proven skills in scheduling, budgeting, logistics, organization, and multi‑stakeholder coordination.
Creative & Curatorial Acumen
  • Strong curatorial sensibility across performance and visual arts; ability to match artists to community contexts.
Community & Partnership Aptitude
  • Track record of building relationships with venues, artists, volunteers, and community groups; strong outreach skills.
Communication Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication. Knowledge of social media platforms, Canva, Adobe, and Microsoft Office.
Technical Skills
  • Experience with analog sound system setup, mixing, troubleshooting sound issues, and repairing analog sound equipment preferred.
Work Style
  • Flexible availability, including readiness to work during events, lunches, evenings, and weekends. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and ability to work as part of a team. Ability to be flexible and respond quickly to change.
Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with artists, industry professionals, and venues.
  • Scout new locations and build relationships with district leaders.
  • Serve as program spokesperson—representing performing arts at events and in communications.
  • Support fundraising initiatives—identify grants, sponsorship opportunities, and participate in proposals.
  • Research and recruit new artists to diversify the ACOKC roster and maintain knowledge of local events and trends.
  • Reviewing artist applications and booking artists to include scheduling, payments, required IRS documents, and contracts.
  • Organizing program calendar 6–12 weeks in advance and publishing a monthly calendar for social media and website.
  • Organizing and maintaining a database that includes vital information to the program.
  • Facilitate artist needs during events, including P.A., staging, announcements, live streaming, shooting photos/videos of performances for social media engagement, gathering audience data, and other logistics.
  • Assist Communications Director with promotion of events to include preparing graphics for social media posts, updating website event calendar, and photography and video editing for content.
  • Preparing and monitoring program budget to be approved by the Executive Director.
  • Maintain event supplies inventory, organizing equipment.
  • Work closely with Executive Director and other Directors to program all performing arts at Festival of the Arts, Chairmen’s Meetings, All Access Art Showcase, and other events.
  • Oversee and assist with stage management and sound reinforcement at Arts Council events to include maintaining, setting up, and programming sound system.
