We’re seeking a skilled Education Journalist/sub-editor with a journalism background and strong editorial skills to join Twinkl Digest , our online news publication for educators, covering key issues in education.

In this role, you'll edit content, ensure accuracy and sensitivity, mentor writers, write engaging copy for educators and support the editor in maintaining editorial standards.

Digest is already an important voice for educators in the UK, with a readership of over 160,000.Digest brings education leaders, educators, TAs and parents the hard-hitting news and expert-led content they need to drive school improvement.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

editing, proofreading and sensitivity-checking content

ensure content aligns with editorial guidelines

develop the journalistic skills of our writers

line managing writers

support editing for the production of our academic print magazine

keeping up to date with key education news and updates

supporting with writing copy and sharing content on social media channels

To succeed in the role, you will have:

a background in journalism with experience editing and proof-reading

a solid understanding of (or willingness to learn about) the education sector and the specific needs of our audience is essential

a good understanding of the writing, editing and publishing process within Digest

an awareness of Digest’s mission

a supportive, yet outcome-driven way of working with others

a passion for education and staying informed about key developments and news in the sector

the ability to work in a small, fast-paced team

strong communication skills to effectively mentor and manage writers, offering constructive feedback

excellent editorial skills, attention to detail and an eye for content

You will need a reliable computer or laptop with a fast broadband speed - you will be responsible for maintenance/repairs, etc.

In this role, you will learn:

advanced editorial and management skills, including line management and mentoring writers

editorial processes across digital and print platforms

enhanced sensitivity-checking techniques, ensuring content is inclusive and appropriate for diverse audiences
