Ridge View Echo is a non‑profit, independent, and nonpartisan news source serving Blairstown, Frelinghuysen, Hardwick, Knowlton, and nearby communities in Northwestern New Jersey. Established in May 2021 with support from the New Jersey Civic Information Consortium (NJCIC), Ridge View Echo works to bridge the gap in local news that existed in the region for over two decades. The organization is committed to delivering accurate, unbiased reporting on local government, school boards, and community affairs, while also celebrating the businesses, events, and individuals that make the area unique.

Published on a rolling basis, Ridge View Echo reaches its readers through its website, newsletter digest, and social media platforms, fostering community involvement and providing a lasting benefit to its audiences.

This is a remote contract role for Local Reporters at Ridge View Echo. The role involves reporting on local community events, government meetings, school board sessions, and other significant occurrences within the serviced areas. Responsibilities include writing well‑crafted news stories, conducting interviews, capturing multimedia content when needed, and ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely news. Collaboration with the editorial team and meeting publication deadlines will be critical aspects of the role.

• Strong skills in Reporting, News Writing, and general Writing
• Proficient Communication skills, with the ability to conduct research and interviews effectively
• Familiarity with Multimedia creation and storytelling techniques, including photography and video, is a plus
• Knowledge of local community dynamics or experience covering similar, small geographically defined areas is preferred
• Ability to work independently in a remote setup while maintaining consistent communication and meeting deadlines
• Passion for providing accurate and unbiased information to the community
