Role Overview

The role will report to the Creative Director, Children' & Education. Predominantly an administrative position, the role also requires some design work.

Bloomsbury Children's Design department are looking for a highly organised, motivated person to join our team. This supportive role is key to the smooth operation of our design department and requires a 'can do' positive person, with good time management who will work with all the designers in the team. A confident communicator who will also liaise with other teams across our children's publishing business.

Responsibilities
  • Biblio admin: updating schedules, status, design costs and loading front cover images (training provided).
  • Meeting organisation: preparing agenda, cover status grid and minuting weekly cover meetings.
  • Updating sales material folder with covers and spreads.
  • Image supply and admin for book fair print and online catalogues.
  • Onboarding freelances.
  • Drafting illustrator contracts.
  • Handling re‑print requests across our children's publishing works.
  • Converting final covers into audio covers.
  • Converting existing book formats to paperback and board book formats.
  • Creating pack shots.
  • Creating holding covers.
Qualifications
  • A degree (BA or equivalent) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant subject such as graphic design, publishing design, illustration, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Acrobat.
  • Proficient in All Creative Suite programmes:
    InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong, clear, confident communicator.
  • Practical, highly organised and committed.
  • Proactive, helpful and time efficient.

Working

Pattern & Salary

The role is a full‑time permanent position. Salary Pay Point: £27,000. The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP
on a hybrid‑working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Mondays and Tuesdays. This position is eligible for Bloomsbury's Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest‑free rental deposit up to £3,000, paid back over 2 years.
