Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Collections Assistant (Digital)

The Tank Museum is looking for a Collections Assistant (Digital), to support our Archive & Object Collections team. This role is an entry-level position and will be responsible for the processing and collections management of our digital archive collection.

The Tank Museum is the world's largest museum dedicated to armoured fighting vehicles and is the home to over 350 vehicles, a large object collection and an accredited archive. The Tank Museum's entire Collection has been Designated by Arts Council England, in recognition of its outstanding national importance.

Within the Museum, the Archive & Object Collections team manages and cares for both the Archive & Object Collections. The above role will process the archive's digital collection and manage the digital store. This position is an exciting opportunity for a new archive graduate to join a mixed objects and archive team, and start their career path towards becoming a Digital Archivist.

The position will offer the opportunity to initially learn the day to day work of a museum archive, after which there are opportunities to specialise in digital collection processing and creating digital collection plans.

  • To process newly incoming and existing digital collections in the Tank Museum Archive. This includes cataloguing and preservation of materials and covers digitised as well as digital-born material.
  • To facilitate internal and external access to the existing Archive collection, including through online enquiries, supporting on-site customer visits and our online collections portal which is to be launched in late 2026.
  • To manage the Museum's digital store using the digital preservation platform Preservica.
Essential What you'll bring:
  • Degree level or equivalent experience in Archiving or a related subject
  • Strong interest in digital archiving.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with an inquisitive and proactive attitude.

  • A practical understanding of working in an archive environment through either volunteering or a placement.
